Theatre Cue Player — browser extension for live theatre cue playback

Effective: 9 August 2026  ·  Last updated: 15 August 2026

The short version. Theatre Cue Player has no account system, no server, and no database. Your shows, sound and video stay on your own computer and — if you choose to use Google Drive — in your own Google Drive. Nothing from your work is sent to the developer. No information about students is collected, ever. This website counts its own page visits with Google Analytics; the software you run your show with does not.

Who this is from

Theatre Cue Player is built and maintained by Kevin Patrick, an individual developer, not a company. Questions about this policy or about your data go to contact@theatrecueplayer.app.

There is no Theatre Cue Player server

This is the single most important thing to understand, because it makes most of the usual privacy questions inapplicable. There is no service to sign up for, no account, no password, and no place where the developer stores your work. Theatre Cue Player runs entirely inside your browser. When it saves a show, it saves it to a folder you picked on your own machine, or to your own Google Drive using your own Google account.

The developer cannot see your shows, your cue lists, your media files, your file names, or your Google Drive. There is no mechanism by which that information could reach them.

What is stored on your device

The extension keeps a small amount of information locally so it can pick up where you left off. None of it leaves your device.

WhatWhy
Which storage mode you chose (folder or Google Drive), and the folder or Drive locationSo it can reopen your shows next time
The last show you had openSo it can offer to reopen it
Your settingsFade lengths, cue numbering, and so on
Your sound and video filesCached in the browser's local storage so shows play instantly and work offline
Files still waiting to uploadSo a save interrupted by a dropped network finishes later
A licence expiry date, a launch counter, and whether you dismissed a noticeSo the app knows what to show you and when

All of it can be erased at any time by removing the extension, or through your browser's normal "clear browsing data" controls. None of it is transmitted anywhere.

Your Google account, if you use Drive mode

Google Drive is optional. Theatre Cue Player works completely without it: in folder mode it never contacts Google, never asks you to sign in, and makes no network connections at all. Schools that block Google services can use it exactly this way.

If you do choose Drive mode, you sign in with Google's own sign-in window. The developer never sees your password. Google issues an access token which is held and refreshed by your browser; the extension does not store it.

What is requested, and what it is used for

Theatre Cue Player asks for one permission, and it is the narrowest one Google offers for this purpose:

PermissionWhat it is used for
drive.file
per-file Drive access
Reading and writing only the show files, media and cue-sheet spreadsheets that Theatre Cue Player itself creates, or that you explicitly open with it. This is the whole of its access to your Google account.

This permission cannot see the rest of your Drive. Files you did not create with Theatre Cue Player, and did not deliberately open in it, are invisible to it — not merely untouched, but genuinely unreadable. It also has no access to your Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, Photos, or any other Google service, and it never learns your email address or your name.

Your Google data is used only to provide the features you asked for, in the moment you ask for them. It is never sold, never shared, never used for advertising, never used to build a profile, and never used to train any machine-learning or AI model.

Limited Use disclosure. Theatre Cue Player's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Revoking access

Signing out inside Theatre Cue Player revokes its token immediately. You can also remove its access at any time from your Google account's permissions page. Doing so does not delete any of your shows — they remain in your Drive, and remain yours.

Analytics

Two separate things are described here, and the difference between them is the whole point: this website, and the software you run your show with. The website is measured. The software is not.

This website

The pages at theatrecueplayer.app — the landing page, the tools page, the terms, and this policy — use Google Analytics. It tells the developer how many people find the site, which pages they read, and roughly which country and which kind of device they arrived on. It sets cookies in your browser and reports to Google, who process that data on the developer's behalf.

It counts visits to pages, not people. It is not used to identify you, it is never connected to anything you do inside a show, and nothing from it is sold or shared. If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker or Google's own opt-out add-on will stop it, and every page here works exactly the same with it blocked.

The extension and the app

Theatre Cue Player itself collects no analytics of any kind. There is no analytics code in the Chrome extension, and none in the browser version you run a show from. No usage data is gathered and no analytics service is contacted while you are working. Google Analytics does not follow you from this website into the software.

The software contains an optional, switched-off capability to report two anonymous counts — that a show was created, and that second-screen output was opened. It is off on every installation and would only ever send anything if someone deliberately switched it on. Should that ever change:

No third-party advertising, tracking, fingerprinting or session-recording code is present in the extension, and none will be added.

Students and schools

Theatre Cue Player collects no information about students. It has no student-facing accounts, no rosters, no grades, no attendance, no logins, and no way to identify any individual. Because it gathers no personal information from anyone, it does not create education records and does not collect personal information from children.

It is designed to be usable by a school that permits no outbound network access at all: in folder mode, the extension makes no network connections whatsoever.

The analytics on this website are a property of the website and not of the software: a student operating a show is not measured by anything, because there is nothing in the software to measure them with. A school that blocks theatrecueplayer.app entirely loses nothing — the extension does not need this site to run.

The mailing list, if you join it

Theatre Cue Player is free for the 2026–27 school year, and the app may offer you a link to leave an email address so you can be told about pricing before that changes. This is entirely voluntary, appears at most once, and can be dismissed permanently.

That form is a Google Form, and any answers you give go to a Google Sheet controlled by the developer — not through the extension, which never sees or sends them. It is used only to contact you about Theatre Cue Player and to help decide fair pricing. It is never sold or shared. Ask at the address above and your entry will be deleted.

Everything the extension connects to

This is the complete list. There are no others.

DestinationWhen
Google sign-in and token servicesOnly in Drive mode, when signing in or out
Google Drive APIOnly in Drive mode, to read and write your own show files
Google Sheets APIOnly when you export a cue sheet to Google Sheets
An analytics endpointNever, as currently shipped — see Analytics above

In folder mode, none of these are contacted and the extension works entirely offline.

Keeping it secure

Because your work stays on your own devices and in your own Google account, its security is governed by your computer's and your Google account's protections. The extension contains no remotely-loaded code: everything it runs is included in the package reviewed and distributed by the Chrome Web Store. All connections to Google use encrypted HTTPS.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top will be updated and the change will be described in the extension's release notes. Meaningful changes will never be applied retroactively to data already collected — of which, at present, there is none.
